【15】Energy crisis in German

After the accident at the fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan, Germany government announced shut down half of the nuclear power plant immediately. To make up for the closed nuclear power supply and demand gap, Germany government adopted high subsidies policy and support the development of renewable energy sources such as wind power and photovoltaic, but traditional energy companies still faced with a serious crisis.

Due to wind and photovoltaic subsidy, lower wholesale prices, only coal power and nuclear power in the traditional energy companies still made a profit. The launch of some new natural gas power plant capacity utilization is only 10%. Traditional energy company profits decreased, closed production facilities and cut jobs. Only the power generation company in Dusseldorf city will reduce the capacity of 11 GW, thousands of workers losing their jobs. Meanwhile, the supply of wind power and photovoltaic power generation is unstable situation, which brings to the power grid operation difficulties.
